SD – Hi, could you please introduce yourself?

We are PocketGP, an app powered by NHS data designed to deliver the most up-to-date content and advice from the healthcare community to the public.

SD – Where are you based?

We are based in London.

SD – What is your background?

PocketGP was created by two data geeks with a background in big data and digital technology. We’ve powered the likes of Orange, The Economist, and Kayak to harness their data and technology to improve user experiences and outreach.

SD – Tell us how you came up with the idea for Pocket GP?

Whilst working on a similar project for London public transport we noticed that the NHS had all the right tools, but weren’t making the most of them. We made PocketGP to help push the amazing content and work they do to the broader public.

SD – How does Pocket GP work?

PocketGP leverages NHS data and content to provide a mobile app environment for all things healthcare related in the UK. Users can look for specific ailments or symptoms, create a personalised healthcare library as well as access our GPS functionality to search for the best ranked nearby healthcare clinics, dentists, and emergency services. All of this can be stored in our app offline – so you can reference advice, articles and GP info whenever you need at the press of a button.

SD – What are your short to long term goals?

Right now we are just concentrating on getting the message out there so that our users can access the right healthcare advice on the go. Going forward we have established partnerships with GP services that will allow our users to talk to doctors remotely for real time advice, diagnosis and prescription services.

SD – What do you see as your biggest challenges for Pocket GP?

Firstly, those that will get the most benefit out of the app, the baby boomer generation, are hardest users to find online. Secondly, there used to be more government support for digital healthcare initiatives than there is currently.

SD – What do you see the digital health landscape being in 2020?

Personal, connected and data driven. Security will play a large role too, but we have all the ingredients today for sustain the rapidly growing digital healthcare landscape.
